Batista gets off to fresh start with Herd
Miguel Batista found himself with a new team in a new organization with a new role. But the motivation for the 40-year old right-hander remains the same. He plays because he still feels he can pitch well. As long as he feels that way, he will continue to make his way through professional baseball.
Batista got his first start for the Buffalo Bisons on Thursday, throwing 3š innings of scoreless ball to set the tone for the Herd's 5-3 win over the Rochester Red Wings in front of 9,156 at Coca-Cola Field.
A veteran major league pitcher, Batista's most distinguished season came in 2001 with World Series champion Arizona. He went 11-8 for the Diamondbacks that season with a 3.36 ERA in 48 games.
